We are starting to get questions regarding city inspectors needing to inspect homes that were flooded.
Here is what we know:
1. If you move and/or add a wall, you must get a structural permit
2. If you swap and/or add new plumbing, you must get a plumbing permit
3. If you swap and/or add wiring, you must get an electrical permit
City inspectors are getting out to the flooded neighborhoods and making surprise visits to homes to ensure that contractors are following building codes. If you are caught doing any of the above, the city inspectors can flag your home and make you remove all the sheet rock that has been installed to inspect what is behind the walls.
If all you are doing is removing wet insulation, dry wall, and flooring, you should not be required to pull a permit.
Please make sure that your contractors are pulling permits, if required.
Sincerely,
Hartgrove Insurance
